Granny Flat Checklist

Terms of use

Last updated 4 October 2026. By using grannyflatchecklist.nz (the “site”) you agree to these terms.

1. Who we are

The site and the Granny Flat Checklist are provided by MBP Trust NZ (Mutual Backed Property Trust NZ), trading as Project Quality Systems (“we”, “us”). Contact: contact@grannyflatchecklist.nz.

2. Copyright and ownership

All content on this site — including the checklist questions, structure, sequencing, guidance notes, “What to do next” text, page design, PDF record layout, software code, logos and graphics — is © 2026 MBP Trust NZ (Mutual Backed Property Trust NZ), trading as Project Quality Systems and is protected by the Copyright Act 1994 and international copyright law. All rights are reserved.

The Building Act 2004, Building Code and referenced standards are public or third-party documents. Our copyright is in our own selection, arrangement, wording and presentation of that material, not in the law itself.

“Granny Flat Checklist”, “Project Quality Systems”, “PQAS” and associated logos are our trade marks. You may not use them without our written permission.

3. What you may do

We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to use the checklists for your own building project, and to print, save and share your completed PDF records with your Licensed Building Practitioner, council, insurer, lender, purchaser or professional advisers for that project.

4. What you may not do

Without our prior written permission you must not:

Builders, LBPs, educators, insurers, lenders and other businesses who want to use the checklists with clients should contact us about a licence.

5. Purchases

Prices are in New Zealand dollars. Payments are processed by Stripe; we do not see or store your card details. A stage purchase unlocks that stage; an all-stages purchase unlocks every current stage and any stages released later. Your rights under the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993 are not affected where they apply.

6. Nature of the checklist

The checklist is an educational self-check and record-keeping tool. It is not a building inspection, does not certify building work, and is not legal, engineering or professional advice. It does not replace the responsibilities of your Licensed Building Practitioner, designer, engineer or licensed trades, or your own obligations under the Building Act 2004. You remain responsible for ensuring your work complies with the Building Code and any exemption conditions.

7. Your information

Your checklist answers and photos are stored only on your own device, in your browser. We do not receive them unless you choose to send us a copy.

8. Liability

To the extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any loss or damage arising from your use of, or reliance on, the site or checklists. Where liability cannot be excluded, it is limited to the amount you paid us for the relevant stage. If you use the site for business purposes, you agree the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993 does not apply.

9. Changes and law

We may update these terms and the checklist content from time to time. These terms are governed by New Zealand law, and New Zealand courts have exclusive jurisdiction.
